Mr. Coulter McIntyre was installed as an acolyte at the Pontifical North American College in Rome on March 1, 2025. Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, Pro-prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization conferred the ministry on 24 seminarians. Placing the paten with the hosts for the Mass in the hands of each man, Cardinal Tagle said, “Take this vessel with bread for the celebration of the Eucharist. Make your life worthy of your service at the table of the Lord and of his Church.” Mr. McIntyre was especially moved by the prayer of the cardinal, “Grant that they may be faithful in the service of your altar and in giving to others the bread of life; may they grow always in faith and love, and so build up your Church.”
On March 3rd, the Seminarian Tea Committee visited Mount Angel for a presentation by one of the monks about the collection of relics held by Mount Angel Abbey. The seventeen members who attended the conference prayed Noon prayer at the monastery and then enjoyed a luncheon with the Archdiocese of Portland seminarians. The committee’s mission is to support Portland seminarians and they regularly visit those who are studying at Mount Angel Seminary. The Committee’s annual fundraiser for the seminarians is a formal tea to be held May 7, 2025 at the Portland Golf Club. Tickets are available on their website.
Shrove Tuesday, also known as Fat Tuesday, is commonly a day for treats and Mardi Gras celebrations before the penitential sacrifices of the Lenten season. It served as an opportunity for the generous members of the Salem Serra Club to bring cookies and other sweets to Mount Angel Seminary. The seminarians were grateful for the thoughtful gesture as they worked through their mid-term exams and projects.
