Chaplain Captain Peter Julia graduated from the Air Force Basic Chaplain Course on July 19, 2024. His membership to the Air Force Chaplain Corp was endorsed by the Archdiocese for Military Services. Fr. Julia attended the 4-week program at Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. Graduates received a certificate of qualification for world-wide service and a registered challenge coin. Class 24C had 16 members including two other Catholic priests and a variety of other religions from across the country.
Fr. Julia was the Class Leader and won the Commandant’s Paper Award with an essay titled, “He Held the Hands of Many.” During the ceremony he read his paper about the distinction and unique efforts of being a military chaplain. He highlighted the radical availability of Fr. Rick Siriani’s 23 year service to the Air Force as Chaplain for the 142nd Fighter Wing of the Air National Guard in Portland, OR.
The military chaplaincy was established by the Continental congress in 1775. “It embodies the determination of America’s religious communities to ensure that their sons and daughters will not go into harm’s way without the comfort and support that only a chaplain can provide,” said the Narrator, Master Sargent Carlo.
