A Journey of Faith: Sr. Israel Rose Professes First Vows

Jun 15, 2024

The Sisters of Life, a religious congregation with a special fourth vow to protect and enhance the sacredness of human life, is pleased to announce that six Sisters will profess their first vows as Sisters of Life on Saturday, June 22nd, at Sacred Heart Church in Suffern, New York. Bishop Edmund Whalen, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of New York, will be the principal celebrant and homilist.

Sister Israel Rose, now 25, graduated from Northwest Christian University with a bachelor’s in business administration and a minor in Spanish Language in 2020. She worked as an administrative assistant at a consulting company while discerning religious life. She left her home parish of St. Alice in Eugene, Oregon in August of 2021 to continue her discernment with the Sisters of Life in New York City.

In an interview prior to her departure, Sister Israel Rose explained that she first felt a nudge to religious life back in high school, but she didn’t know what discernment looked like until she attended the 2019 FOCUS Seek Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana. “That was really my first experience as to what it looks like to be Catholic as a young adult. I was surrounded by about 20,000 college students who were on fire for their faith—something I had never experienced before. And not only that, there were hundreds of men and women religious at the conference as well. I had never seen religious sisters and I had never seen young religious sisters but they were everywhere and for the first time in my life I thought this is something I can see myself doing,” said Sister Israel Rose. The full interview is published on Youtube.

“In saying yes to God she’s living an adventure of a lifetime,” said Sister Israel Rose’s mother, Michelle Rosebrook. As a family they were always open to religious life. “My husband, growing up in McKenzie Bridge, had a close relationship with the Dominican Brothers who would spend August at St. Benedict’s Lodge. One of the brothers, told my daughter that he thought she had a vocation to be a sister,” added Rosebrook.

As a mother, Rosebrook said that witnessing her daughter choose a life devoted to Christ is amazing. “That God would choose our family. It’s such a huge impact. All of us look at Sister Israel Rose and say, ‘Wow! God is real. She’s so happy.’”
